Frequently Asked Questions
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. I'll ask what has brought you to counselling, what you're hoping for, and a little about your background. We'll also go over confidentiality and how online sessions work, and you're welcome to ask me anything. There's no pressure to share more than you're ready to.
Does online counselling work as well as face to face?
For many people, yes. Research suggests online counselling can be as helpful as meeting in person for concerns like anxiety, grief and relationship difficulties. Many people also find it easier to open up from a familiar space, without the travel.
Do I need to be a Christian to see you?
No. I welcome people of all faiths and none. My Christian faith shapes how I care for people, but I only bring faith into our sessions if you would like me to.
Can I have sessions in Mandarin?
Yes. Sessions are available in English or Mandarin. Just let me know your preference when you book.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you're working through and what you hope to gain. Some people find a few sessions helpful, while others prefer ongoing support. We'll talk about this together and review how things are going along the way, and you can decide to stop at any time.
Can I claim a rebate from Medicare or my health fund?
Not at the moment. Counselling with me isn't covered by Medicare, and health fund rebates aren't currently available.
What if I need help urgently?
Counselling isn't an emergency service. If you are in crisis or feel unsafe, please call 000, or Lifeline on 13 11 14 (24 hours, 7 days).
Is what I share kept confidential?
Yes. What you share stays between us, with a few exceptions required by law, such as a serious risk of harm. You can read more in my Client Policies.
